It was a long night. Abby was excited but incredibly nervous. This was the night she would meet Calvin’s family for the first time. Abby and Calvin met at Oklahoma Christian University only six weeks ago, as we saw in Episode ().
The drive down felt faster and longer than 4 hours. Faster because the butterflies in Abby’s stomach had to be what transported them to Texas. Long because it was late, and they hit DFW traffic on a Friday night. It is true what they say: the only way to beat Friday’s rush hour traffic in Dallas is to leave on Thursday.
Anyway, when they arrived, Abby was surrounded by smiles and laughter, and hugs. But the next day, Calvin set up a double-date: Abby and Calvin and Carlie and Isaiah (Calvin’s oldest younger sister and her boyfriend). We went to Joe’s Pasta and Pizza.
It was amazing! The food was delicious, but the bread was addicting. Carbs should not be allowed to taste that good. Back to the story. Calvin kept getting up during dinner and saying he needed to use the restroom. He did this so much, Abby started to get concerned, not to mention the awkward silences that ensued between Abby, Carlie, and Isaiah. After making our way through dinner, Calvin insisted on showing me a little park near the town’s library. It was late, and it had already been a long day, but, reluctantly, Abby agreed.
The park was beautiful, even in the darkness of night. There was a rock pathway, a pretty water feature with lights, and a set of balloons. “What are the balloons from?” Abby asked. When she turned around, she saw Calvin on one knee, with a beautiful ring in his hand. “Will you marry me?” he said. Through tears and smiles, Abby said yes! Not two seconds later, all of his family emerged from behind the bushes. Everyone was in on it! She had just experienced the second happiest day of her life.
